SCIVET Network Meeting in Berlin

On 3-4 June 2024, the SCIVET network meeting took place in Berlin, which was attended by both KH Managing Director Frank Tischner and the Head of International Projects Department, Aika Drescher.

The network meeting Handwerk international (International Crafts) is organised by the Skilled Crafts Cluster of the Agency for Business and Development together with the SCIVET Coordination Office at the ZDH. This year, both skilled craftspeople and representatives of skilled crafts organisations were invited to a lively exchange on the focus topic of international vocational training and development cooperation.

In a panel discussion, Frank Tischner presented the new apprenticeship partnership with Jordan. As of 1 August, five Jordanians will begin an apprenticeship at member companies of the KH in the Steinfurt district. Mr Tischner emphasised the bureaucratic obstacles that have to be overcome. Kreishandwerkerschaft is taking a pragmatic approach to establishing a welcoming culture in order to warmly greet the new apprentices in the district in mid-July.

Over the course of two days, networking took place and discussions were held on how the skilled crafts sector can be more present in the DC/IBC. The participating skilled crafts organisations and craftspeople were unanimous that the skilled crafts sector plays an important role in development cooperation and that this must continue to be promoted through projects.
