Grand Opening of Thusanang House Training Workshop
As part of our apprenticeship partnership with Motheo TVET College in Bloemfontein, South Africa, a physical training workshop has been designed and constructed over the past few years. Its construction is already part of the vocational training program for students at the college. We are, of course, referring to the so-called Thusanang House, which has now been opened and will be used on a permanent basis as a training workshop for the cosmetics and hairdressing trades. The construction of Thusanang House was also integrated into the college’s educational curriculum—the college’s trainees took the initiative and, with the help of their instructors, designed and built Thusanang House themselves. Various trades were involved, ranging from bricklayers and HVAC technicians to roofsmen. The International Department of Kreishandwerkerschaft Steinfurt Warendorf supported the project, among other things, by providing expertise through two short-term experts who accompanied the construction work on the building for several weeks. Furthermore, the long-term expert on site, Ms. Katja Lommetz, played a key role in coordinating the construction of the facility. On August 27, KH CEO Frank Tischner traveled to Bloemfontein to officially open Thusanang House together with local partners, including South Africa’s Minister of Higher Education, Science and Technology, Mr. Buti Kgwaridi Manamela.
