National Women’s Month in South Africa – Empowering Women in the Skilled Trades
On 9 August South Africa celebrated Women’s Day – the entire month of August was dedicated to women as Women’s Month, providing the perfect framework for recognising and highlighting the exceptional skills of female artisans in the skilled trades.
Over the past weeks, various campuses were visited every Friday and numerous activities were organised under the slogan Fridays For Female Future. These events offered the opportunity to network with the private industry, demonstrate skills and take part in workshops.
One particular role model in this was national rugby and netball player Sikholiwe ‘Sne’ Mdletshe, a female athlete and academic who visited the National Artisan Academy campus on 23 August and gave a motivational speech about her path to success, serving as an inspiration to many female participants.
