On last Thursday, the 1st Labour and Industry Fair was held on the grounds of KH partner IICM (Instituto Industrial e Comercial da Matola) under the slogan “The Future of Renewable Energy in Mozambique”. The fair brought together more than 300 participants, sustainably strengthening the connection between young talents and companies.

The day offered TVET College apprentices, students and alumni as well as companies extensive networking opportunities, inspiring presentations and a chance to get in touch with leading companies and innovators from the renewable energy sector.

KH supports the two organisers of the fair, AMER (Associação Moçambicana de Energias Renováveis) and IICM, within the framework of the Vocational Education and Training Partnership (BBP), which is now in its fifth year, with the aim of strengthening the qualification of local talent in order to have a regional advantage in the rapidly growing renewable energy sector.

“This fair is an essential step to connect young talents with the numerous career opportunities that are emerging in the market”,

says Vasco Cuna, Technical Advisor for KH.

During this week, the Kreishandwerkerschaft Steinfurt Warendorf is welcoming a delegation from Mozambique. Together with KH’s International Team, member companies and educational institutions in the districts of Steinfurt and Warendorf are being visited. The visitors represent the two main partners of the Vocational Education and Training Partnership (BBP), the Mozambican Association for Renewable Energies (AMER) and the vocational training center in Matola (IICM), as well as private vocational training providers and public infrastructure companies in Mozambique.

On Wednesday, the group visited the KH premises in Beckum. Electrical training manager Rene Jürgens led a tour of the electrical training workshop and a very focussed technical discussion about the on-site training as well as the common key topic of renewable energies ensued. At the end, Ann-Kristin Erdmann, Head of Department Guilds, presented the delegates with an “energy carrier” shopping bag containing a voucher for a local DIY store.

The delegation will be visiting until Saturday and will return home after an informative but also exhausting week of visits.

In 2023, the motto for us and our partners in the respective projects was: “Hands on!”
Our Vocational Education and Training Partnership (BBP) with AMER and the IICM in Mozambique entered its second phase, while the BBP with Motheo TVET College in South Africa was launched. The year 2024 will now be all about implementing the activities laid out in 2023.
Back in November, Frank Dorstel, master car mechanic and service manager at Autohaus Berkemeier, was on an expert mission to our partner institute IICM in Maputo, Mozambique. Among other things, a concept for the advanced training of vocational school teachers was developed. A workshop check-up was also carried out, in which the workshop organisation and equipment were analysed and suggestions for improvement were developed.
Our TVET partner in South Africa, Motheo TVET College in Bloemfontein, will primarily focus on networking with the private sector under the IRESA umbrella in this year. Expert workshops on site are also scheduled to be held.
Frank Tischner and Jörg Kersten conducted a successful marketing workshop in Jordan with their expert mission at the Aqaba National Vocational Training Hub (ANVT). Further specialist workshops are planned for 2024.
We look forward to a productive 2024 and successful projects with our partners and colleagues!

GIZ / BMZ Mozambique Visit KH

Last Friday, 10 November, BMZ Regional Manager for Mozambique, Mark Holzberger, and GIZ Regional Director for Mozambique, Ekkehard Lang, visited our project in Mozambique. During a tour around KH’s partner school IICM (Instituto Industrial e Comercial da Matola), both learned about the progress of the cooperation between KH and its partners.

Our local representatives, Jan Rogge and Vasco Cuna, joined by Nilza Almeida (Deputy Director of the IICM) gave the guests a tour of the workshops. KH organises practical training courses for teachers in the field of welding, which have become well-known throughout the country.

Mr. Holzberger and Mr. Lang were very impressed by the cooperation between the KH and the IICM.
